Non mi sembra vero, e invece è giugno. Il cielo su Manchester è ancora grigio, e senza una giacchetta l’aria fredda sulla pelle è fastidiosa. Diciamo che l’inizio dell’estate ancora non si sente, ma il tempo sta passando davvero velocissimo. É giovedì e non lavoro, così ho deciso di farmi un giretto in centro per il Norther Quarter e addolcirmi il palato con una buona colazione a base di scones e marmellata -me la sogno da giorni!
La location scelta per questa grigia mattina inglese è SUGAR JUNCTION (60 Tib Street).
It’s hard to believe, however it’s June already. The sky above Manchester is still grey. You cannot go out without a jacket as the air is fizzy and sometimes even cold. I dare to say we are still far away from the beginning of Summer, but time is literally flying. Today is Thursday, I’m off at work and I decided to enjoy a nice visit to the Norther Quarter after a sweet breakfast with scones and jam – I have been looking forward to it from days!
Sono passata molte volte davanti a queste due finestre, durante i miei giri esplorativi nel Norther Quarter, ma è la prima volta che entro. La porta fa tintinnare un campanellino dal suono metallico, e subito una ragazza dallo stile curato e floreale un po’ vintage mi sorride e mi fa accomodare. Sembra di essere tornata indietro nel tempo: le pareti sono decorate con carte da parati di tonalità pastello e pattern delicati, la maggior parte dei tavoli non è apparecchiata: sono in legno, ben lucidati e senza tovaglie, ma con piccole zuccheriere di porcellana e freschi mughetti disposti in un barattolo di vetro.
It’s the first time I step into Sugar Junction, despite I’ve been walking up and down Tib Street more then once during my flaneur walks around the NQ. The door bell rings while opening the door and a vintage dress waitress welcomes me. She has red lips and pretty long black hair. She fits perfectly with the vintage interior design of the tea room. Delicate flowery wall papers decorate the main room. Most of the wooden tables are unset, others are covered with light flowery table clothes. China sugar pots stand on the table next to fresh bunches of lily of the valleys.
Do un’occhiata al menù giusto per lasciare che le mie pupille gustative assaporino un po’ dei deliziosi piatti e mega colazioni proposte, ma so già cosa prenderò questa volta: un soffice scone fatto in casa da spalmare di rossa marmellata di lamponi! De-li-zio-so!
Once seated, I have a look at the menu but this time I already know what I am gonna have: a freshly hand made scone with jam and cream! De-li-cious!
Piattini di porcellana decorata, barattolini di marmellata e clotted cream con il tappo a pois, una leggera tovaglia di cotone a fiori, che mi ricorda i grembiulini che indossa la mia nonna. Adoro tutti questi dettagli! Il cappuccino è caldo e spolverato di cacao, giusto per non farci mancare nulla!
My breakfast is served on little china plates, jam and cream are brought in small glass jars with red spotted tops and the huge coffee is in a really nice cup, full of birds and writings. A bunch of colours for this gloomy day!

E così trascorro la mia mattinata: tra un caldo sorso di caffè, qualche riga scritta per riordinare i miei pensieri, e un po’ di dolce marmellata.
Fuori continua a piovere.
My sweet morning goes on, between a warm sip of coffee, a few written lines to tidy my thoughts, and some sweet raspberry jam. Outside is still raining.
