I’m excited!!! Dopo alcuni lunghi mesi di lontananza, la mia sorellina Sofi è venuta a trovarmi! Finalmenteeeee! E l’occasione richiede una location speciale per la nostra colazione assieme. FIG + SPARROW è sicuramente quello di cui abbiamo bisogno: pane integrale, ai semi di finocchio o ai fichi, yogurt, porridge, marmellate fatte in casa, cappuccini al latte di soya e tè organici aromatizzati…slurp, slurp! Solo al pensiero di così tante cose buone e salutari mi viene fame! Non voglio accennarle nulla, sarà una sorpresa, e sono sicura le piacerà!

I’m excited!!! After such a long time, my sister Sofi is finally visiting! Our reunion has to be celebrated properly. FIG + SPARROW is what we need: whole meal bread, enriched with fennel seeds or figs, natural yogurt, porridge, home made jams, soya cappuccinos and pure organic teas… slurp, slurp! I’m hungry now…I cannot think of so many delicious things! I don’t want to tell her where we are going, it will be a surprise, and I’m sure she will love it!

Il locale non è molto grande ma è molto accogliente. Questa mattina è ancora presto, ha appena aperto e i due tavolini fuori sono ancora liberi. Voglio che Sofi prima dia un’occhiata all’interno, perché merita davvero. La stanza è rettangolare con il bar infondo. L’arredo è semplice ma molto curato e dallo stile neutro e sofisticato al tempo stesso. Prima di sederci e ordinare, curiosiamo tra gli articoli ben esposti in vendita all’entrata: ci sono simpatici bigliettini di auguri disegnati, tazze e teiere, asciugamani e astucci in fantasia -li comprerei tutti! Vendono anche il pane e il tè: sicuramente Sofi ne vorrà acquistare qualche fetta. É fresco e fatto da loro con ingredienti salutari e genuini. Merita davvero. 

The location is very welcoming and comfy. It’s early morning and they have just opened. Nobody has  sat yet in the two small tables outside, maybe we could stay there. Actually, I would like to show Sofi the inside part of the coffee bar, because it is really nice and well decorated. I love this kind of interior design: simple natural and sophisticated at the same time. The main room is rectangular with the bar at the end. Before having our breakfast, we have a look at concept store at the entrance: on the wooden shelves we can find tea cups and pots, nice ceramic kitchen stuff, wishes cards and rolls of paper with colourful patterns. Everything is tidy and well exposed. We really like the handprinted tea clothes and spotted purses. Why couldn’t we buy them all!? Near the bar, they sell tea bread as well. I perfectly know Sofi would like to buy some slices of them. They look really tasty – and they’re all fresh home-made!

Decidiamo di sederci in uno dei tavolini quadrati in legno in fondo al locale. La scelta sulla colazione richiede più tempo del previsto, e poi le cose si complicano quando ci sono così tante buone cose da provare. 

We choose one of the squared wooden table near the bar to sit. Everything in the menu look delicious, so that we take long time before being ready to order, but we did it!

Alla fine optiamo per due cappuccini di soya, l’energia giusta per iniziare bene la giornata. E insieme prendiamo due fette di pane ai fichi da spalmare di marmellata. É ancora tiepido. Possiamo servirci da sole di zucchero, acqua, tovaglioli, quando e se ne abbiamo bisogno, senza fretta ne obbligo! É davvero come essere a casa. 

We order two soya cappuccinos with cocoa powder on the top and we share two toasts of fig bread with jam: the right amount of energy to start our new day together perfectly. Wow! The bread smells really well, and it’s warm! Sugar, tissues and fresh water with lemon are just behind us and we could “make ourself at home” as the waiter says to us while bringing our breakfast.

Il servizio è delizioso, alla cassa Emily è gentilissima e il suo sorriso riempie di energia. Oggi tutto intorno a me sembra perfetto. 
Sono molto felice di avere con me la mia Sofi.

Everyone is kind and smiley here. The service is quick and Emily at the desk is very nice, her smile enriches us with energy. Today everything around me is perfect. 
I’m really happy when Sofi is with me.

As I thought, she is enthusiastic about our breakfast and about the location. She keeps saying how much she loved Fig+Sparrow and the fig bread she has just tried. She probably would like one (or two) more slices of bread. But we have to go: the sun is shining in Manchester, and we have to took advantage of these unusual sun rays to visit the Norther Quarter properly, starting right from Thunder Egg and Magma, next to Fig+Sparrow.
